Flagyl 60 ml is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial and parasitic infections. It is commonly used for treating infections such as:-
Gastrointestinal infections: Including giardiasis, amoebiasis, and infections caused by Clostridium difficile.

Vaginal infections: Such as trichomoniasis and bacterial vaginosis.

Anaerobic infections: Including infections in the abdomen, pelvis, skin, and bones caused by anaerobic bacteria.
Pharmacology:
Flagyl 60 ml contains the active ingredient:

Metronidazole: A nitroimidazole antibiotic that works by disrupting the DNA of both bacteria and protozoa, preventing their replication and growth. It is particularly effective against anaerobic bacteria and protozoal organisms.
Dosage:

Adults: The usual dosage for adults is 500 mg (equivalent to 5 ml) every 8–12 hours depending on the infection being treated. The total daily dose may range from 1.5 to 2 grams depending on the severity of the infection.

Children: For children, the dose is determined based on weight and the type of infection, typically around 20-30 mg/kg body weight per day, divided into 2 or 3 doses.
Administration:

Flagyl 60 ml is usually administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) by a healthcare professional.

The solution should be administered slowly. IV infusion typically takes about 30 minutes to complete.

For intravenous use, the solution must be diluted according to the instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
Interaction:

Flagyl 60 ml may interact with alcohol, causing a severe reaction that includes nausea, vomiting, and flushing. Therefore, alcohol should be avoided during treatment and for at least 48 hours after completing the medication.

Metronidazole may also interact with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) and increase their effects, leading to a higher risk of bleeding.

Other medications such as lithium and certain anti-epileptic drugs may interact with Flagyl. Always inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking.
Contraindications:

Lactation: Metronidazole passes into breast milk. It is generally considered safe for breastfeeding mothers, but it should be used with caution. Consult your healthcare provider before using Flagyl while breastfeeding.
