Farpem 200 mg is used to treat various bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, urinary tract infections, and other conditions caused by susceptible bacteria. It helps in inhibiting bacterial growth and reducing the spread of infection.
Pharmacology:
Farpem 200 mg contains the active ingredient cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. Cefixime works by interfering with the bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the death of the bacteria. It is effective against a broad range of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage:
Adults and Children (over 12 years): The usual dose is 200 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted based on the severity of the infection and the doctor’s instructions.
Children (6 months to 12 years): The dose depends on the child’s weight and the infection severity, typically around 8 mg/kg body weight per day, divided into two doses.
Administration:
Farpem 200 mg should be taken orally with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. For best results, take the medication at the same time each day.
Interaction:
Farpem may interact with other antibiotics, blood thinners, and medications used to treat infections.
Inform your doctor if you are taking other medications, including over-the-counter drugs, to avoid potential interactions.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to cefixime, other cephalosporins, or any of the ingredients in Farpem.
Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disorders, particularly colitis.
Not recommended for patients who have a history of severe allergic reactions to penicillins or other cephalosporins.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain.
Rare but serious side effects may include severe allergic reactions (such as rash, swelling, or difficulty breathing), liver problems, or blood disorders.
If any severe side effects occur, seek immediate medical attention.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Farpem 200 mg should only be used during pregnancy if the potential benefits outweigh the risks. Consult your doctor before using it during pregnancy.
Cefixime is excreted in breast milk, so breastfeeding while using Farpem should be done only under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
