STEMETIL 5 MG is commonly used to treat:
Nausea and vomiting: Helps to control nausea and vomiting caused by various conditions including illness, chemotherapy, or surgery.
Dizziness and vertigo: Effective in treating dizziness or vertigo caused by inner ear conditions or certain medications.
Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders: Used as an adjunct to treat schizophrenia by improving mood and reducing psychotic symptoms such as delusions or hallucinations.
It works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain, which helps in controlling symptoms of nausea, vomiting, and mental health conditions like schizophrenia.
Pharmacology:
STEMETIL 5 MG contains Prochlorperazine, which belongs to a class of drugs called phenothiazines. Prochlorperazine works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain, which are involved in controlling nausea and vomiting. It also has antipsychotic properties by affecting the neurotransmitter dopamine, which helps reduce the symptoms of schizophrenia and other psychiatric conditions.
Dosage:
For nausea and vomiting: The usual dose is 5 mg to 10 mg 2 to 3 times daily, depending on the severity of the symptoms.
For dizziness (vertigo): The typical dosage is 5 mg 2 to 3 times daily.
For schizophrenia: The starting dose is typically 5 mg per day, which can be increased depending on the response, with a usual range of 10 mg to 20 mg per day.
Always follow your doctor’s recommendations for the dosage.
Administration:
Take STEMETIL 5 MG orally with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Take at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
Interaction:
CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, sedatives): May enhance the sedative effect, leading to excessive drowsiness.
Antidepressants: May increase the risk of side effects such as drowsiness or dizziness.
Blood pressure-lowering medications: STEMETIL can lower blood pressure, and may enhance the effects of other antihypertensive drugs.
Always inform your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Prochlorperazine or any of the components of the medication.
Severe liver or kidney disease: Dose adjustments may be required.
Severe heart problems such as heart failure or arrhythmias.
Glaucoma: Caution should be used if the patient has glaucoma.
Pregnancy: STEMETIL 5 MG should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary and prescribed by a doctor. It is categorized as Pregnancy Category C.
Breastfeeding: Prochlorperazine passes into breast milk. Consult a healthcare provider before using this medication while breastfeeding.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: STEMETIL 5 MG should be used during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the risks. It is classified as Pregnancy Category C.
Lactation: Prochlorperazine is excreted into breast milk. It is recommended to consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
