Indications:
SPERDAL 1 MG is used in the treatment of:
Schizophrenia: A condition that affects thinking, perception, and behavior.
Bipolar disorder: A mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings, from manic highs to depressive lows.
Autism-related irritability: Helps manage irritability, aggression, and mood swings in patients with autism spectrum disorder.
SPERDAL 1 MG works by balancing specific neurotransmitters, such as dopamine and serotonin, in the brain, which are involved in mood regulation and mental processes. It is particularly effective for managing symptoms of psychosis and improving overall functioning in individuals with these conditions.
Pharmacology:
SPERDAL 1 MG contains Risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic. Risperidone acts by blocking dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain, which helps in controlling symptoms such as delusions, hallucinations, and mood swings. By affecting these neurotransmitters, it stabilizes mood and reduces the severity of psychotic episodes, thereby improving the patient's quality of life.
Dosage:
Schizophrenia: The usual initial dose is 1 mg daily, which can be increased gradually to a maximum dose of 6 mg per day, based on the patient's response.
Bipolar disorder: Typically, the starting dose is 1 mg daily, with possible increases depending on the clinical response.
Autism irritability: The starting dose is generally 0.25 mg per day, with gradual increases depending on the patient’s age and condition.
Always follow the prescribed dosage and consult your doctor for any adjustments.
Administration:
Take SPERDAL 1 MG orally with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Use a consistent schedule to take the medication every day to maintain stable blood levels.
Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions for correct dosage.
Interaction:
Antidepressants: Risperidone may increase the sedative effects when taken with antidepressants or other CNS depressants.
Antihypertensive medications: SPERDAL 1 MG may lower blood pressure, which could be enhanced when used with blood pressure-lowering drugs.
CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines): Concurrent use may increase sedative effects, leading to drowsiness or respiratory depression.
Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.
