Indications:
ALTRIP 6.25 MG is indicated for:
Schizophrenia (positive and negative symptoms)
Acute manic episodes of bipolar disorder
Maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder
Adjunct treatment for major depressive disorder (as prescribed)
Pharmacology:
ALTRIP contains quetiapine fumarate, an atypical antipsychotic. It exhibits antagonistic activity on serotonin (5HT2), dopamine (D2), histamine (H1), and adrenergic receptors. This multi-receptor interaction helps in balancing mood and controlling psychotic symptoms, with lower risk of extrapyramidal side effects compared to typical antipsychotics.
Dosage:
Adult dose varies from 25 mg to 800 mg/day depending on condition severity and patient tolerance.
ALTRIP 6.25 mg is often used as a starting dose or during dose titration.
Always follow physician guidance for dose adjustments.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food.
Swallow whole with water; do not split or crush unless advised.
Best taken at the same time daily for consistency.
Interaction:
May interact with: CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g. ketoconazole), inducers (e.g. phenytoin), CNS depressants, antihypertensives
Avoid alcohol due to enhanced sedative effect
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to quetiapine
Concurrent use with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors without dosage adjustment
Severe liver impairment (caution required)
Side Effects:
Common: drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness, constipation, weight gain
Serious: QT prolongation, orthostatic hypotension, neuroleptic malignant syndrome, hyperglycemia, suicidal thoughts (especially in younger patients)
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Use only if potential benefit justifies the risk
Lactation: May be excreted in breast milk; use with caution
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood glucose and lipid levels in long-term use
Caution in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis (increased risk of death)
Regular monitoring for mood or behavioral changes
Avoid sudden discontinuation to prevent withdrawal symptoms
