Indications:
Laxitab 2 mg is indicated for the short-term treatment of constipation. It is also used to evacuate the bowel before diagnostic procedures like colonoscopy, surgery, or radiological tests.
Pharmacology:
Laxitab contains Bisacodyl, a stimulant laxative. It works by stimulating the nerve endings in the intestinal wall, increasing peristalsis (bowel movement), and helping in the elimination of stool.
Dosage:
Adults and children over 12 years: 1 to 2 tablets (2–4 mg) once daily.
Children 6 to 12 years: 1 tablet (2 mg) once daily.
Dosage may be adjusted by the physician as needed.
Administration:
Take with water at bedtime. Do not chew or crush the tablet. Avoid taking with milk or antacids as they may dissolve the tablet coating too early.
Interaction:
Using with diuretics or corticosteroids may increase the risk of electrolyte imbalance. Milk or antacids can interfere with the tablet's effectiveness.
Contraindications:
Should not be used in cases of intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal conditions, severe dehydration, or known hypersensitivity to Bisacodyl.
Side Effects:
May cause abdominal cramping, diarrhea, nausea, and dehydration. Long-term use can lead to dependency on the laxative.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor. Consult a physician before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in the elderly or in patients with kidney problems. Avoid prolonged use (not more than 7 consecutive days) without medical supervision.
