Indications:
Vorifix 200 MG is indicated for the treatment of invasive aspergillosis, candidemia in non-neutropenic patients, esophageal candidiasis, and serious fungal infections caused by Scedosporium and Fusarium species.
Pharmacology:
Voriconazole is a triazole antifungal agent that inhibits fungal cytochrome P450-dependent enzyme lanosterol 14-α-demethylase, which is essential for ergosterol synthesis and fungal cell membrane formation.
Dosage:
The standard adult dose is 200 mg every 12 hours. Dose adjustments may be necessary based on weight, liver function, or specific fungal species.
Administration:
Take at least one hour before or one hour after meals. Swallow whole with water. Dosage must be individualized as per doctor's advice.
Interaction:
May interact with rifampin, carbamazepine, phenytoin, and some antiretrovirals. Avoid use with certain enzyme inducers and inhibitors. Regular monitoring may be required.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Voriconazole or any component of the formulation. Avoid in patients taking certain drugs like sirolimus, rifampin, or quinidine.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include visual disturbances, fever, rash, nausea, vomiting, and liver enzyme abnormalities. Serious effects may include QT prolongation and hepatotoxicity.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy due to potential fetal harm. Caution should be taken if administered during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment. Monitor liver function tests regularly. Avoid exposure to sunlight or UV radiation due to photosensitivity risk.
