Indications:
OMECRON 20 mg is indicated for the treatment of:
Gastric and duodenal ulcers
NSAID-associated gastric and duodenal ulcers
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Acid-related dyspepsia
Severe ulcerating reflux esophagitis
Prophylaxis of acid aspiration during general anesthesia
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
Helicobacter pylori-induced peptic ulcer (as part of combination therapy)
Prevention of stress ulceration
Treatment of upper gastrointestinal bleeding
Pharmacology:
Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cell. This effect reduces gastric acidity, promoting ulcer healing and symptom relief in acid-related disorders.
Dosage & Administration:
Gastric ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 4–8 weeks
Duodenal ulcer: 20 mg once daily for 2–4 weeks
GERD: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks; may extend to 8 weeks if necessary
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: Starting dose of 60 mg daily; dosage adjusted based on patient response
NSAID-associated ulcers: 20 mg once daily for 4 weeks; for prophylaxis, 20 mg once daily
H. pylori eradication: 20 mg twice daily in combination with appropriate antibiotics for 7–14 days

Interaction:
Omeprazole may interact with:
Clopidogrel: May reduce the antiplatelet effect; caution advised
Warfarin: May increase anticoagulant effect; monitor INR levels
Diazepam, Phenytoin, and other drugs metabolized by CYP2C19: May increase plasma concentrations
Methotrexate: High-dose methotrexate therapy may lead to elevated levels; temporary withdrawal of Omeprazole may be considered

Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Omeprazole or any component of the formulation
Concomitant use with products containing rilpivirine

Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea
Bone fracture risk with long-term use
Vitamin B12 deficiency with prolonged use

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Category C. Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare provider
Lactation: Omeprazole is excreted in breast milk; caution is advised
Precautions & Warnings:
Long-term therapy may lead to atrophic gastritis
Monitor for signs of gastrointestinal infections
Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration appropriate to the condition being treated
