Indications:
Fenticonazole vaginal cream is indicated for the treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis (vaginal yeast infections) caused by Candida albicans and other susceptible fungi.
Pharmacology:
Fenticonazole is a broad-spectrum antimycotic agent that inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of fungal cell membranes, leading to cell membrane disruption and fungal cell death.
Dosage:
For adults, one applicator full (approximately 5 grams) should be administered intravaginally in the morning and evening for three consecutive days.
Administration:
Attach the applicator to the tube, squeeze the cream into the applicator until it reaches the 5-gram mark. In a lying position with knees raised, gently insert the applicator into the vagina as deeply as comfortable, then push the plunger to release the cream. After use, clean the applicator with warm water and mild soap, rinse thoroughly, and store it properly.
Interaction:
Systemic absorption of fenticonazole after vaginal application is minimal; therefore, interactions with other drugs are unlikely.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to fenticonazole or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include mild and transient irritation, burning, itching, or redness at the application site. These symptoms typically resolve after discontinuation of the medication.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Safety during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare provider.
Precautions & Warnings:
Avoid using during menstruation, as the cream may be washed away. Do not use tampons, vaginal douches, or other vaginal products concurrently. Refrain from vaginal intercourse during treatment. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a healthcare provider.
