Indications:
LOSARVA 25 MG is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, to lower the risk of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy, and for renal protection in type 2 diabetic patients with proteinuria.
Pharmacology:
Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that prevents the hormone angiotensin II from binding to its receptors on blood vessels. This results in vasodilation, reduced secretion of aldosterone, decreased blood pressure, and reduced workload on the heart.
Dosage & Administration:
The usual starting dose is 25 mg once daily, which may be adjusted to 50–100 mg daily based on blood pressure response. Dosage should be personalized and adjusted by a physician.
Interaction:
May interact with potassium-sparing diuretics, potassium supplements, NSAIDs, lithium, and other antihypertensives. Monitor serum potassium and renal function when used with such agents.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to losartan or any component of the formulation, and in pregnant women due to risk of fetal toxicity.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, fatigue, hypotension, and hyperkalemia. Rarely, renal impairment or allergic reactions may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to risk of injury and death to the developing fetus. Caution is advised during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood pressure and renal function regularly. Use with caution in patients with renal artery stenosis, liver impairment, or electrolyte imbalances. Avoid use with potassium supplements unless advised.
Therapeutic Class:
Angiotensin-II receptor blockers (ARBs)
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
