Indications:
STARCAL-D is indicated for the prevention and treatment of calcium and vitamin D deficiency, osteoporosis, osteomalacia, and support during pregnancy, lactation, and postmenopausal bone loss.
Pharmacology:
Calcium Carbonate provides elemental calcium essential for bone formation and maintenance. Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) enhances calcium absorption from the intestine and regulates calcium-phosphorus balance in the blood and bones.
Dosage:
Typical adult dose: 1 tablet once or twice daily, or as directed by a physician, depending on dietary intake and deficiency level.
Administration:
Should be taken orally with a glass of water, preferably after meals to improve absorption. Avoid taking with high-fiber or iron-rich foods that can reduce calcium absorption.
Interaction:
May interact with tetracycline antibiotics, bisphosphonates, levothyroxine, and diuretics. Avoid simultaneous intake of iron supplements.
Contraindications:
Hypercalcemia, hypervitaminosis D, severe renal impairment, kidney stones, or hypersensitivity to any component.
Side Effects:
Usually well-tolerated. Possible side effects include constipation, bloating, nausea, or hypercalcemia with overuse.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Safe to use under medical supervision during pregnancy and lactation to meet increased calcium and vitamin D needs.
Precautions & Warnings:
Prolonged high-dose use may lead to calcium overdose or kidney stones. Monitor serum calcium levels in long-term users.
