Pharmacology:
DOXIVA contains doxycycline, a broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby preventing bacterial growth.
Dosage:
Adults: Typically 100 mg twice daily or as prescribed
Children: Dose based on weight and physician’s advice
Administration:
Oral administration with a full glass of water
Take on an empty stomach or with food to reduce stomach upset
Complete the full course even if symptoms improve
Interaction:
May interact with antacids, iron supplements, and calcium products; separate dosing by at least 2 hours
Caution with blood thinners like warfarin
Contraindications:
Allergy to tetracycline antibiotics
Children under 8 years (due to risk of tooth discoloration)
Pregnancy and breastfeeding unless advised by a doctor
