Indications:
RUPATID is indicated for the symptomatic treatment of allergic rhinitis (including seasonal and perennial), chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives), sneezing, runny nose, and itchy skin.
Pharmacology:
Rupatadine is a second-generation antihistamine that blocks histamine H1 receptors and also inhibits platelet-activating factor (PAF). This dual action helps control both early and late-phase allergic reactions.
Dosage:
Adults and adolescents (12 years and older): 10 mg once daily, with or without food. Dosage adjustments are not typically required for the elderly.
Administration:
Should be taken orally at the same time each day for best results. Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
Concomitant use with ketoconazole, erythromycin, or grapefruit juice may increase Rupatadine plasma levels. Avoid alcohol or CNS depressants.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or any of its components. Not recommended for use in patients with severe liver impairment.
Side Effects:
Common: headache, drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue. Rare: increased appetite, dizziness, nausea.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy unless clearly needed. Caution should be exercised during lactation, as it is not known whether it passes into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use caution when operating machinery or driving until you know how the drug affects you. Avoid in severe renal or hepatic impairment without physician supervision.
