Indications:
RABLET is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), duodenal and gastric ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and for the eradication of H. pylori in combination therapy.
Pharmacology:
Rabeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by specifically inhibiting the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system in gastric parietal cells.
Dosage:
Typically, 20 mg once daily before meals. In Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, higher or more frequent doses may be required. Duration depends on the condition being treated.
Administration:
Take orally 30 minutes before a meal. Do not crush or chew the tablet; swallow whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with drugs dependent on stomach pH (e.g., ketoconazole, atazanavir), warfarin, digoxin, and methotrexate. May reduce absorption of vitamin B12 on long-term use.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Rabeprazole or other substituted benzimidazoles.
Side Effects:
Common: headache, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain. Rare: rash, liver enzyme changes, vitamin B12 deficiency on long-term use.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Caution advised during lactation as it is unknown if Rabeprazole is excreted in human milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Long-term use may lead to osteoporosis-related fractures, hypomagnesemia, or vitamin B12 deficiency. Monitor liver function during prolonged therapy.
Therapeutic Class:
Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPI)
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
