Indications:
UNIGERD 20 mg is prescribed for symptomatic relief of nausea and vomiting, gastroparesis, bloating, early satiety, and upper gastrointestinal discomfort. It is used in both acute and chronic gastric motility disorders.
Pharmacology:
Domperidone is a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist that promotes gastric emptying and enhances esophageal sphincter tone, reducing reflux. It prevents nausea and vomiting by blocking dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone.
Dosage:
Adults: 20 mg up to 3 times daily, preferably 15–30 minutes before meals. Maximum daily dose should not exceed 60 mg.
Administration:
Take orally before meals with water. Avoid grapefruit juice and high-fat meals during treatment.
Interaction:
Concomitant use with CYP3A4 inhibitors like ketoconazole, erythromycin, or certain antifungals may increase Domperidone levels and risk of side effects. Avoid QT-prolonging drugs.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity, prolactinoma, gastrointestinal obstruction, or severe liver impairment.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include dry mouth, abdominal discomfort, dizziness, and rarely cardiac arrhythmias or hormonal effects like galactorrhea.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed in pregnancy. Consult a doctor before use during breastfeeding.
