Indications:
RECECA 5 gm is indicated for the treatment of pediatric patients suffering from pharyngitis, tonsillitis, bronchitis, otitis media, urinary tract infections, and other mild to moderate bacterial infections.
Pharmacology:
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial lysis and death. It is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Dosage:
In children, the typical dosage is 8 mg/kg/day, given as a single dose or in two divided doses. The exact dose depends on age, weight, and severity of infection.
Administration:
Shake the bottle well before use. Administer the exact amount using the provided measuring cup or dropper. Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) and strong antacids. Monitor prothrombin time when used with blood thinners.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known allergy to cephalosporins. Use caution in children with a history of penicillin allergy.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include diarrhea, stomach upset, rash, and vomiting. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions or yeast overgrowth may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not directly applicable for children, but lactating mothers administering should consult with a physician before exposure.
Precautions & Warnings:
Ensure full course is completed to avoid resistance. Monitor for signs of allergy. Dose adjustment may be needed in renal impairment.
