Indications:
NIMOVO 500 mg is indicated for:
Relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis
Decreasing the risk of developing gastric ulcers in patients at risk of NSAID-associated gastric ulcers
Pharmacology:
NIMOVO 500 mg is a combination of two active ingredients:
Naproxen: A non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and antipyretic properties. It works by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis, thereby reducing pain and inflammation.
Esomeprazole: A proton pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase in the gastric parietal cells, reducing stomach acidity and protecting the gastric mucosa from NSAID-induced damage.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: One tablet twice daily (morning and evening), at least 30 minutes before meals.
Administration: Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew, crush, or dissolve.
Note: Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration consistent with individual treatment goals.
Interaction:
With other medications:
Concomitant use with ACE inhibitors, diuretics, and beta-blockers may reduce their antihypertensive effects.
Co-administration with warfarin may increase the risk of bleeding.
Esomeprazole may interfere with the absorption of drugs like ketoconazole, iron salts, and digoxin due to altered gastric pH.
With food:
Taking NIMOVO with high-fat meals may delay the absorption of Naproxen but does not significantly affect its overall absorption.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Naproxen, Esomeprazole, or any component of this product.
History of asthma, urticaria, or other allergic-type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs.
Peri-operative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery.
Side Effects:
Common:
Gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, indigestion, flatulence, abdominal pain.
Serious:
Gastrointestinal bleeding, peptic ulcers, perforation, cardiovascular events (e.g., myocardial infarction, stroke), renal impairment, liver dysfunction, skin reactions.
Long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency and fundic gland polyps.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Contraindicated during the third trimester. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus during the first and second trimesters.
Lactation: Not recommended during breastfeeding due to the presence of Naproxen.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, cardiovascular disease, hypertension, renal or hepatic impairment.
Monitor for signs of gastrointestinal bleeding, cardiovascular events, and renal function during treatment.
Avoid concurrent use with other NSAIDs or anticoagulants unless directed by a healthcare provider.
Therapeutic Class:
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
Proton pump inhibitors
