Indications:
Lijenta M 500 mg is used to improve blood glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. It combines Linagliptin and Metformin for better glycemic control.
Pharmacology:
The medicine contains:

Linagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormones, promoting insulin release and decreasing glucagon.

Metformin, a biguanide that reduces hepatic glucose production and increases insulin sensitivity.
Dosage:
Usually prescribed once or twice daily with meals. Dosage depends on patient condition and physician’s guidance.
Administration:
Take with food to reduce stomach upset. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew.
Interaction:
May interact with alcohol, iodinated contrast media, corticosteroids, and beta-blockers. Risk of low blood sugar increases if taken with insulin or sulfonylureas.
Contraindications:
Not suitable for patients with kidney problems, metabolic acidosis, or hypersensitivity to Linagliptin or Metformin.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and headache. Rare but serious side effects include lactic acidosis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Caution during breastfeeding as Metformin passes into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular kidney function monitoring is important. Avoid alcohol. Discontinue before surgery or radiologic tests with contrast dye.
