Indications:
Hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol levels)
Prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in patients at risk

Pharmacology:
AVATOR contains atorvastatin, a statin drug that inhibits HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, key to cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver. This results in decreased LDL ("bad") cholesterol and triglycerides, and modest increase in HDL ("good") cholesterol, improving cardiovascular health.
Dosage:
Typical starting dose: 10 mg once daily
Dose may be adjusted up to 80 mg based on patient response and cholesterol levels
Taken orally, preferably at the same time each day
Administration:
Swallow tablet whole with water
Can be taken with or without food
Consistent daily use is important for effectiveness
Interaction:
May interact with cyclosporine, certain antibiotics (erythromycin), antifungals, grapefruit juice, warfarin
Monitor for muscle pain if taken with fibrates or niacin
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to atorvastatin
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevated liver enzymes
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Side Effects:
Common: headache, muscle pain, nausea, diarrhea
Serious: rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown), liver dysfunction, allergic reactions
