Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, while clavulanic acid inhibits beta-lactamase enzymes, preventing antibiotic degradation.
Adults: 1 tablet (625 mg) every 8 to 12 hours or as prescribed
Take with food to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort
Complete full course to prevent resistance
May interact with allopurinol increasing risk of skin reactions
May reduce efficacy of oral contraceptives
Monitor when combined with anticoagulants or methotrexate
Hypersensitivity to penicillins or beta-lactam antibiotics
History of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction related to amoxicillin-clavulanate
Severe renal impairment
Common: Diarrhea, nausea, rash
Less common: Vomiting, headache, dizziness
Rare: Severe allergic reactions, Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea
Pregnancy: Generally considered safe
Lactation: Compatible; excreted in breast milk
Use cautiously in patients with liver impairment
Monitor for signs of allergic reaction
Adjust dose in renal impairment
