Indications:
RISPOLUX 2 MG is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia, acute manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder in children and adolescents.
Pharmacology:
RISPOLUX contains risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic that acts as a dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2 receptor antagonist. It helps in balancing neurotransmitters in the brain, thereby improving mood, behavior, and thinking.
Dosage:
Dosage depends on the condition being treated, age, and patient response. Typically starts at a low dose and gradually increases as directed by the physician.
Administration:
Administer orally, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with CNS depressants, antihypertensives, anti-Parkinson drugs, and drugs that affect CYP2D6 metabolism. Alcohol may increase sedative effects.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to risperidone or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, weight gain, anxiety, restlessness, tremor, and extrapyramidal symptoms. Rarely, it may cause neuroleptic malignant syndrome or tardive dyskinesia.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Risperidone is excreted in breast milk; breastfeeding should be avoided during treatment.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis.
May cause orthostatic hypotension.
Monitor for signs of metabolic changes such as hyperglycemia or dyslipidemia.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation without physician’s advice.
