Neptor 20 mg is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, erosive esophagitis, Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Neptor contains Esomeprazole, the S-isomer of omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor. It inhibits gastric acid secretion by blocking the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in gastric parietal cells. Esomeprazole provides longer-lasting acid suppression compared to omeprazole.
Adults: Typically 20 mg once daily before meals.
The dose may vary depending on the condition.
In H. pylori eradication, it is used in combination with antibiotics.
May affect absorption of drugs where gastric pH is important (e.g., ketoconazole, atazanavir).
May increase levels of diazepam, warfarin, and phenytoin.
Reduced effectiveness of clopidogrel when taken together.
Known hypersensitivity to esomeprazole, other substituted benzimidazoles, or any component of the formulation.
Common: Headache, diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence
Rare: Dry mouth, dizziness, allergic reactions, low magnesium with long-term use
Pregnancy: Esomeprazole is considered relatively safe during pregnancy when clearly needed.
Lactation: Use with caution as it may be excreted in breast milk.
Long-term therapy may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, osteoporosis-related fractures, or hypomagnesemia.
Rule out malignancy if used to treat gastric symptoms.
Use cautiously in patients with severe liver impairment.
