Rimactazid 450mg is indicated for the treatment of pulmonary and extrapulmonary tuberculosis, especially in patients requiring combination therapy with rifampicin and isoniazid.
Rimactazid 450mg contains two potent antitubercular agents: rifampicin and isoniazid. Rifampicin inhibits bacterial RNA synthesis by targeting DNA-dependent RNA polymerase. Isoniazid blocks the synthesis of mycolic acids in the bacterial cell wall. Together, they provide effective bactericidal action against Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Adults: Dose depends on body weight and treatment stage
Usual dose: 1 tablet daily on an empty stomach, preferably in the morning
Should be used as part of a complete anti-TB regimen
Adherence to full course is essential to avoid resistance
Rifampicin may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, anticoagulants, and antiretrovirals
Isoniazid may enhance levels of phenytoin, carbamazepine, and other drugs
Avoid alcohol due to risk of hepatotoxicity
Known hypersensitivity to rifampicin, isoniazid, or other components
Active liver disease or history of drug-induced hepatitis
Severe hepatic dysfunction
Common: Nausea, vomiting, red-orange discoloration of body fluids, loss of appetite
Serious: Hepatitis, peripheral neuropathy, allergic reactions, blood disorders
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy
Rifampicin may increase bleeding risks in neonates
Both ingredients are excreted in breast milk; caution is advised
Regular liver function monitoring is essential
Pyridoxine (vitamin B6) supplementation is recommended to prevent neuropathy
Educate patients on harmless discoloration of urine and other fluids
Avoid interruption of therapy to prevent resistance
Antitubercular fixed-dose combinations
