Indications:
Galvus 50 mg is indicated for:

Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults

Used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents when diet and exercise alone are insufficient
Pharmacology:
Vildagliptin, the active ingredient, is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It increases levels of incretin hormones, which stimulate insulin secretion and decrease glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner, thus improving glycemic control.
Dosage & Administration:

Usual dose is 50 mg once or twice daily, with or without food

Dose adjustment may be necessary in renal impairment
Interaction:

May increase risk of hypoglycemia when used with sulfonylureas or insulin

Caution when combined with drugs affecting renal function

No significant interactions with food
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to vildagliptin

Type 1 diabetes mellitus or diabetic ketoacidosis

Severe renal impairment
Side Effects:

Common: Headache, dizziness, hypoglycemia (especially with other antidiabetics), nausea

Less common: Joint pain, constipation, skin reactions

Rare: Pancreatitis
Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy: Use only if clearly needed and advised by a physician

Lactation: Safety not established; use with caution
Precautions & Warnings:

Monitor renal function periodically

Inform doctor if symptoms of pancreatitis develop (severe abdominal pain)
