Indications:
TEGRETOL CR 200 MG is indicated for treatment of partial and generalized seizures, trigeminal neuralgia, and bipolar disorder.
Pharmacology:
Contains carbamazepine in a controlled-release formulation, which stabilizes nerve membranes by blocking sodium channels, reducing seizure frequency and neuropathic pain.
Dosage:
Typically started at 200 mg once or twice daily. Dosage adjusted based on clinical response and tolerability.
Administration:
Take orally with water, preferably after meals. Do not crush or chew the tablet to maintain controlled release.
Interaction:
May interact with other anticonvulsants, MAO inhibitors, anticoagulants, and some antibiotics. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to carbamazepine, bone marrow suppression, or history of allergic reactions to related compounds.
Side Effects:
Side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, rash, and rarely blood disorders.
