Treatment of essential hypertension
For patients needing combination therapy to achieve blood pressure control
Can be used alone or with other antihypertensive agents
Exforge contains:
Amlodipine: A calcium channel blocker that relaxes vascular smooth muscle, lowering peripheral resistance and blood pressure.
Valsartan: An angiotensin II receptor blocker that prevents vasoconstriction, reducing blood pressure.
The combination provides complementary mechanisms to manage hypertension effectively.
One tablet daily, with or without food
Dose adjustments should be based on clinical response
Not recommended for severe hepatic or renal impairment without medical supervision
May cause hypotension when combined with other antihypertensives
Increased potassium levels with potassium-sparing diuretics or supplements
Caution with NSAIDs, lithium, and drugs affecting renal function
Avoid concurrent use with ACE inhibitors
Hypersensitivity to components
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Severe hepatic impairment or biliary obstruction
Severe renal impairment without monitoring
Common: Peripheral edema, dizziness, headache, fatigue
Less common: Palpitations, flushing, abdominal discomfort
Rare: Angioedema, hypotension, liver enzyme abnormalities
Pregnancy: Contraindicated due to potential fetal risk
Lactation: Not recommended
Monitor blood pressure and renal/liver function regularly
Use caution in heart failure or volume depletion patients
Do not stop medication abruptly
