Mitosan 40 mg is indicated for:
Management of essential hypertension
Reducing the risk of myocardial infarction or stroke in high-risk patients
Kidney protection in patients with type 2 diabetes and hypertension
Telmisartan is a selective angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It inhibits angiotensin II from binding to the AT1 receptor, resulting in vasodilation and decreased aldosterone levels, thus lowering blood pressure and protecting heart and kidney function.
Adults: 40 mg once daily, with or without food
Can be increased to 80 mg if needed
Dose adjustment may be required in hepatic or renal impairment
NSAIDs may reduce its effectiveness
Concomitant use with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics may raise serum potassium
Risk of hypotension when combined with diuretics or other antihypertensive agents
Hypersensitivity to Telmisartan
Pregnancy (especially in the second and third trimesters)
Severe liver impairment
Bilateral renal artery stenosis
Common: Dizziness, muscle cramps, upper respiratory tract infections
Less common: Hypotension, hyperkalemia, renal dysfunction
Rare: Rash, angioedema, liver enzyme abnormalities
Pregnancy: Contraindicated; may cause fetal injury or death
Lactation: Not recommended due to potential adverse effects on the baby
Monitor blood pressure, renal function, and electrolytes regularly
Caution in patients with renal or hepatic dysfunction
Avoid alcohol and dehydration while on this medication
