Probitor 20mg is indicated for the treatment of peptic ulcer disease, duodenal ulcer, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Probitor contains Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the surface of the gastric parietal cell. This action blocks the final step of acid production in the stomach.
Adults: The usual dose is 20 mg once daily, taken before meals, preferably in the morning.
Dosage may vary depending on the condition and physician's advice.
Omeprazole may interact with:
Clopidogrel (may reduce its effectiveness)
Warfarin (increased risk of bleeding)
Diazepam, Phenytoin (may increase their plasma levels)
Ketoconazole, Atazanavir (reduced absorption)
Hypersensitivity to Omeprazole or any component of the formulation.
Patients with a known allergy to substituted benzimidazoles.
Common: Headache, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, flatulence
Rare: Rash, dizziness, vitamin B12 deficiency, allergic reactions
Pregnancy: Considered safe for short-term use when prescribed.
Lactation: Omeprazole is excreted in breast milk; use with caution under medical supervision.
Long-term use may lead to osteoporosis-related fractures.
May mask symptoms of gastric malignancy.
Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment.
Monitor magnesium levels with prolonged use.
