Indications:
TOFRANIL 25 MG is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder, certain anxiety disorders, and enuresis (bedwetting) in children.
Pharmacology:
Contains imipramine hydrochloride, which inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, enhancing neurotransmitter levels to improve mood.
Dosage:
Typically starts at 25 mg once or twice daily, with gradual dose adjustment based on response and tolerance.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food. Preferably taken at bedtime to reduce daytime drowsiness.
Interaction:
May interact with MAO inhibitors, SSRIs, antihypertensives, and alcohol. Inform your doctor of all medications.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with recent myocardial infarction, MAO inhibitor use within 14 days, and hypersensitivity to imipramine.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dry mouth, dizziness, constipation, blurred vision, and sedation. Rarely, cardiac arrhythmias may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Caution advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for suicidal thoughts, especially in young adults.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation; taper dose under medical supervision.
Use with caution in patients with cardiac disorders.
