Major depressive disorder (MDD)
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
Social anxiety disorder
Panic disorder
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Lumenta contains Escitalopram, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It increases serotonin levels in the brain by inhibiting its reuptake at the synaptic cleft, enhancing mood and emotional stability.
Adults: 10 mg once daily, with or without food
May be increased to 20 mg daily depending on response and tolerance
Dose adjustment required for elderly or patients with liver impairment
May interact with MAO inhibitors, leading to serious or fatal reactions
Increased risk of bleeding with NSAIDs, aspirin, warfarin
Caution with other serotonergic drugs (e.g., triptans, tramadol) due to risk of serotonin syndrome
Hypersensitivity to Escitalopram
Concurrent use with MAOIs or within 14 days of stopping an MAOI
QT interval prolongation
Common: Nausea, insomnia, dry mouth, fatigue, dizziness
Less common: Sexual dysfunction, increased sweating, weight changes
Rare: Serotonin syndrome, suicidal thoughts (especially in young adults)
Pregnancy: Use only if benefits justify the risk; may affect fetal development
Lactation: Escitalopram is excreted in breast milk; use with caution
Monitor for suicidal ideation, especially in the initial treatment period
Caution in patients with history of seizures, mania, or QT prolongation
Gradual dose tapering is recommended to avoid withdrawal symptoms
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs)
