Indications:
RISPOLUX 4 MG is indicated for treatment of schizophrenia, acute manic or mixed episodes in bipolar I disorder, and irritability associated with autistic disorder.
Pharmacology:
RISPOLUX contains risperidone, an atypical antipsychotic that blocks dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2 receptors to restore neurotransmitter balance.
Dosage:
Dosage is individualized based on patient condition and response. Generally starts low and titrates upward under medical supervision.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food. Swallow whole with water.
Interaction:
Possible interactions with CNS depressants, antihypertensives, drugs affecting CYP2D6 enzyme, and alcohol which may enhance sedation.
Contraindications:
Not to be used in patients hypersensitive to risperidone or its components.
Side Effects:
May cause drowsiness, dizziness, weight gain, anxiety, restlessness, extrapyramidal symptoms, and rarely neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if benefits outweigh risks. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment.
Precautions & Warnings:
Caution in elderly dementia patients due to increased mortality risk.
Monitor blood sugar and lipid profile regularly.
Avoid abrupt discontinuation without doctor’s guidance.
