Mitosan 80 mg is indicated for:
Treatment of essential hypertension
Reduction of cardiovascular morbidity in patients with atherothrombotic cardiovascular disease
Treatment of diabetic nephropathy in hypertensive patients with type 2 diabetes
Mitosan contains Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing cardiovascular risks.
Adults: 40–80 mg once daily, with or without food
Dosage may be adjusted based on patient response
Not recommended for children under 18 without specialist advice
May enhance the hypotensive effect of other antihypertensives
Use with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements may increase serum potassium
NSAIDs may reduce its antihypertensive effect
Hypersensitivity to Telmisartan or any excipients
Pregnancy (especially second and third trimester)
Severe hepatic impairment
Bilateral renal artery stenosis
Common: Dizziness, fatigue, back pain, sinusitis
Less common: Hypotension, increased potassium levels, renal impairment
Rare: Angioedema, allergic reactions
Pregnancy: Contraindicated; may cause fetal toxicity
Lactation: Not recommended due to potential risks to the infant
Monitor renal function and potassium levels during therapy
Use with caution in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment
Avoid abrupt discontinuation without medical supervision
Angiotensin-II receptor blockers (ARBs)
