Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)
Patients uncontrolled by monotherapy with either valsartan or hydrochlorothiazide
Helps reduce risk of cardiovascular events
Valsartan: Angiotensin II receptor blocker that relaxes blood vessels and lowers blood pressure.
Hydrochlorothiazide: Thiazide diuretic that promotes excretion of sodium and water, reducing blood volume.
Combination improves blood pressure control by complementary mechanisms.
Usually one tablet once daily, adjust dose based on clinical response
Can be taken with or without food
Monitor electrolytes and kidney function regularly
Risk of hyperkalemia with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics
NSAIDs may reduce antihypertensive effect
Caution with other antihypertensives and lithium
Hypersensitivity to valsartan, hydrochlorothiazide or sulfonamides
Anuria or severe renal impairment
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Severe hepatic impairment
Common: Dizziness, headache, increased urination, electrolyte imbalance
Less common: Hypotension, hyperkalemia
Rare: Allergic reactions, kidney dysfunction
Pregnancy: Contraindicated due to risk of fetal harm
Lactation: Not recommended
Monitor blood pressure, electrolytes, and kidney function
Use caution in patients with diabetes or renal disease
Avoid abrupt discontinuation
Combination antihypertensive (ARB + Thiazide diuretic)
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C, away from direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children.
