Indications:
Alatrol is indicated for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), perennial allergic rhinitis, and chronic idiopathic urticaria.
Pharmacology:
Alatrol contains Cetirizine dihydrochloride, a potent and selective antagonist of peripheral H1-receptors. It inhibits the effects of histamine, a chemical responsible for allergic symptoms, without causing significant sedation in recommended doses.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults and children over 12 years: 10 mg once daily.
Can be taken with or without food.
In patients with renal or hepatic impairment, dosage adjustment is advised.
Interaction:
Mild interaction may occur with alcohol, theophylline, and CNS depressants. No significant interaction with food.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Cetirizine or any of its components, and in patients with severe renal impairment.
Side Effects:
Generally well-tolerated. Possible side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, and fatigue.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use with caution during pregnancy and lactation. Should only be used if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
Precautions & Warnings:
Avoid operating machinery or driving until individual response is known. Use cautiously in elderly or renal-impaired patients.
Therapeutic Class:
Non-sedating antihistamines.
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
