Indications:
Prevention and treatment of Vitamin C deficiency (scurvy), supports immune health, improves iron absorption, and helps in wound healing.
Pharmacology:
Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) is a water-soluble vitamin that acts as an antioxidant. It’s essential for collagen formation, tissue repair, enzymatic production of certain neurotransmitters, and immune function. It enhances the absorption of iron and plays a vital role in healing and protecting against infections.
Dosage:
Adults: 1–2 tablets daily or as advised by the physician.
Children: As prescribed by the physician.
Administration:
Chewable tablet; should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing. Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
High doses may interfere with laboratory tests (e.g., blood glucose tests). May reduce the effectiveness of anticoagulants like warfarin in large doses.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to ascorbic acid or any component of the formulation. Use with caution in patients with kidney stones or renal impairment.
Side Effects:
Generally well tolerated. High doses may cause diarrhea, abdominal cramps, or kidney stones in predisposed individuals.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Safe in recommended doses during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Excessive doses should be avoided.
Precautions & Warnings:
Prolonged use of high doses may lead to kidney stones. Caution in patients with hemochromatosis due to increased iron absorption.
