Indications:
SECRIN 1 MG is used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
Pharmacology:
Glimepiride stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells and increases peripheral insulin sensitivity, helping lower blood glucose levels.
Dosage & Administration:
Initial dose typically 1 mg once daily with breakfast or first main meal.
Dose may be increased based on response up to 8 mg daily.
Regular blood glucose monitoring is recommended.
Do not skip meals after taking medication.
Interaction:
Enhanced hypoglycemic effect with NSAIDs, ACE inhibitors, alcohol, and other antidiabetics.
Reduced effect with corticosteroids, thiazides, and sympathomimetics.
Beta-blockers may mask hypoglycemia symptoms.
Contraindications:
Type 1 diabetes mellitus
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Severe renal or hepatic impairment
Allergy to Glimepiride or sulfonylureas
Side Effects:
Hypoglycemia (most common)
Dizziness, headache
Weight gain, nausea
Rare allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated in pregnancy; insulin preferred. Use during lactation not recommended.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood glucose and signs of hypoglycemia.
Use cautiously in elderly and those with adrenal or pituitary insufficiency.
Avoid alcohol consumption.
Inform patients about hypoglycemia symptoms.
