Indications:
Carva is indicated for hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients, and familial hypercholesterolemia.
Pharmacology:
Carva contains Atorvastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor that lowers cholesterol by inhibiting the rate-limiting step in cholesterol biosynthesis in the liver.
Dosage & Administration:
Typical dose: 10 to 80 mg once daily, depending on patient condition.
Take orally with or without food.
Dose adjusted according to lipid levels and therapeutic response.
Interaction:
May interact with CYP3A4 inhibitors, certain antibiotics, antifungals, and other lipid-lowering agents.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to atorvastatin
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of liver enzymes
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Side Effects:
Common: headache, muscle pain, nausea, abdominal pain, elevated liver enzymes.
Rare: rhabdomyolysis, myopathy, allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor liver function tests and muscle symptoms regularly. Use cautiously in patients with hepatic impairment.
