Indications:
Secclo is indicated for the treatment of candidiasis, cryptococcal meningitis, and other systemic and superficial fungal infections.
Pharmacology:
Secclo contains Fluconazole, a triazole antifungal agent that inhibits the fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme 14α-demethylase, disrupting ergosterol synthesis essential for fungal cell membrane integrity.
Dosage & Administration:
Dosage varies with infection type; commonly 150 mg as a single dose for vaginal candidiasis or 200-400 mg daily for systemic infections.
Tablets should be taken orally with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with warfarin, phenytoin, cyclosporine, and oral hypoglycemics. Monitor closely for drug interactions.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to fluconazole or other azole antifungals.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and rash. Rarely, hepatotoxicity and QT prolongation may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excreted in breast milk; use caution during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor liver function during prolonged therapy. Use cautiously in patients with liver or kidney impairment.
