Fosfomax 3 gm is an oral powder containing Fosfomycin Trometamol, an antibiotic used primarily to treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), such as acute cystitis, caused by susceptible bacteria like Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis. Fosfomycin works by inhibiting the enzyme MurA, which is crucial for bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to the death of the bacteria. This medication is effective even against some antibiotic-resistant strains, as it does not share resistance mechanisms with other antibiotic classes. Fosfomax is typically taken as a single 3 gm dose, dissolved in 100 mL of cold water, and consumed immediately after preparation. It can be taken with or without food. Common side effects include gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, but these effects are usually mild. Fosfomax is contraindicated in children and should not be used by those with severe renal insufficiency or hypersensitivity to the drug. Always consult a healthcare provider before starting treatment.
