Indications:
Thyrin is indicated for the treatment of hypothyroidism of various origins, thyroid hormone replacement therapy after thyroidectomy, and suppression of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in certain thyroid disorders.
Pharmacology:
Thyrin contains Levothyroxine sodium, a synthetic form of thyroxine (T4) hormone. It replaces deficient thyroid hormone and regulates metabolism, growth, and development.
Dosage & Administration:
Initial dose usually starts at 25 mcg daily for adults, adjusted according to thyroid function tests and clinical response.
Take on an empty stomach 30-60 minutes before breakfast.
Dose adjustments required in elderly and patients with cardiovascular disease.
Interaction:
May interact with antacids, iron, calcium supplements, warfarin, and certain anticonvulsants. Separate administration times to avoid reduced absorption.
Contraindications:
Untreated thyrotoxicosis
Acute myocardial infarction
Hypersensitivity to levothyroxine
Side Effects:
Symptoms of overdose include palpitations, nervousness, insomnia, tremors, and weight loss. Allergic reactions are rare.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Safe and often necessary during pregnancy with appropriate dose adjustments. Small amounts pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor thyroid function regularly. Use cautiously in cardiovascular disease and elderly patients.
