🔸 Indications:

Zimax 500 mg is indicated for the treatment of:

Upper and lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., bronchitis, pneumonia)
Otitis media (ear infection)
Skin and soft tissue infections
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis
Sexually transmitted infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis
Non-gonococcal urethritis and cervicitis

🔸 Pharmacology:

Zimax contains Azithromycin, a macrolide antibiotic. It binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis and thereby stopping bacterial growth. It is effective against many gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria.

🔸 Dosage:

Adults: 500 mg once daily for 3 days
Or 500 mg on Day 1, followed by 250 mg once daily for the next 4 days
Sexually transmitted infections: Single 1g dose
Or as directed by a physician

🔸 Administration:

Should be taken orally 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Swallow whole with water. Avoid taking with antacids simultaneously (space at least 2 hours).

🔸 Interaction:

Antacids containing aluminum or magnesium may reduce absorption
May increase levels of digoxin, warfarin, and cyclosporine
Avoid using with ergot derivatives due to risk of ergotism

🔸 Contraindications:

Known hypersensitivity to Azithromycin, erythromycin, or any macrolide antibiotics
History of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction from prior azithromycin use

🔸 Side Effects:

Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
Diarrhea
Headache
Skin rash
Rare: QT prolongation, hepatotoxicity

Seek medical advice if severe allergic reaction or arrhythmia occurs.

🔸 Pregnancy & Lactation:

Generally considered safe during pregnancy, but should be used only if clearly needed. Small amounts may pass into breast milk.

🔸 Precautions & Warnings:

Use with caution in patients with liver disease or heart rhythm disorders
Monitor ECG if patient is at risk for QT prolongation
Complete the full course even if symptoms improve early
