Indications:
FUSID (Furosemide) is indicated for:

Edema associated with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis, or renal disease

Acute pulmonary edema
-
Hypertension (alone or with other antihypertensives)
Pharmacology:
Furosemide is a loop diuretic that inhibits sodium and chloride reabsorption in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle. It promotes the excretion of water, sodium, chloride, magnesium, and calcium, leading to reduced fluid overload and blood pressure.
Dosage & Administration:

Adults (Edema): 20–80 mg once daily, may be adjusted based on response.

Adults (Hypertension): Usually 40 mg twice daily or as directed.
-
Should be taken in the morning to avoid nocturia.
Interaction:
-
May enhance the effects of other antihypertensives.
-
May cause increased toxicity with aminoglycosides or lithium.
-
NSAIDs may reduce its diuretic effect.
Contraindications:
-
Hypersensitivity to Furosemide or sulfonamides
-
Anuria
-
Severe electrolyte depletion
-
Hepatic coma or pre-coma
Side Effects:
-
Dizziness, hypotension
-
Electrolyte imbalance (hypokalemia, hyponatremia)
-
Dehydration
-
Hyperglycemia, increased uric acid

Rare: hearing loss (at high IV doses)
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Furosemide passes into breast milk; not recommended during breastfeeding without physician advice.
Precautions & Warnings:

Monitor electrolytes, renal function, and fluid balance regularly

Use cautiously in patients with diabetes, gout, or liver disease
-
Avoid overuse to prevent dehydration and electrolyte imbalance
