Description
Acos 250 mg Tablet is a broad-spectrum antibiotic produced by Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd., containing 250 mg of Azithromycin Dihydrate, a macrolide antibiotic. It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of various bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections (like bronchitis and pneumonia), sinusitis, pharyngitis, skin and soft tissue infections, otitis media, and certain sexually transmitted diseases like non-gonococcal urethritis caused by Chlamydia trachomatis. Azithromycin works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, which halts bacterial growth and reproduction. The medication is typically taken once daily, either as a 3-day or 5-day course, depending on the condition being treated. It should be taken at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals for optimal absorption. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and headache, while serious allergic reactions are rare. Acos 250 mg is not suitable for individuals allergic to macrolide antibiotics, and caution is advised when taken with certain other medications like digoxin or ergot derivatives. Though generally considered safe in pregnancy (Category B), it should be used only if clearly needed, and breastfeeding mothers should consult a doctor before use.
