Description
Frenvas 20 mg Tablet, manufactured by Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd., contains Atorvastatin, a potent statin medication used to manage elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes. Atorvastatin works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for cholesterol production in the liver, leading to decreased levels of total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol. It also increases the number of LDL receptors on liver cells, enhancing the clearance of LDL from the bloodstream. Frenvas is indicated for conditions including primary hypercholesterolemia, combined hyperlipidemia, familial hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, dysbetalipoproteinemia, and for reducing the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with coronary artery disease. The typical starting dose is 10 mg once daily, which may be adjusted based on the patient's response, with a maximum dose of 80 mg per day. Common side effects include constipation, flatulence, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, headache, back pain, rash, and muscle pain. Atorvastatin is contraindicated in patients with active liver disease, unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases, pregnancy, and lactation. Liver function tests should be performed before initiating therapy and periodically thereafter.
