Description
Carlina-M 2.5 mg + 500 mg Tablet is a fixed-dose combination medication manufactured by Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh. It combines Linagliptin (2.5 mg), a Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, and Metformin Hydrochloride (500 mg), a biguanide-class oral antihyperglycemic agent. Linagliptin works by inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, thereby increasing the concentrations of active incretin hormones like GLP-1 and GIP. This action enhances insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppresses glucagon release from alpha cells in a glucose-dependent manner, leading to improved glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Metformin reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. This combination therapy is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both Linagliptin and Metformin is appropriate.
