Description
Radimet 850 mg is an oral medication manufactured by Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd., primarily used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The active ingredient, metformin hydrochloride, is a biguanide-class antihyperglycemic agent. Metformin works by decreasing hepatic glucose production, reducing intestinal glucose absorption, and enhancing insulin sensitivity, thereby lowering both basal and postprandial plasma glucose levels without causing hypoglycemia. It is typically prescribed as an adjunct to diet and exercise and may be used alone or in combination with other antidiabetic agents or insulin when blood glucose control is inadequate. The standard dosage for adults usually starts at 850 mg taken once daily with meals, with possible gradual increases based on individual response and tolerance, up to a maximum of 2550 mg per day. Radimet 850 mg is contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, or hypersensitivity to metformin. Common side effects may include gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Patients should be monitored for signs of lactic acidosis, a rare but serious complication.
