Description
Xyflo 4 mg Chewable Tablet is a pediatric formulation of Montelukast Sodium, a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist. It works by inhibiting the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor (CysLT₁), thereby reducing inflammation and constriction in the airways. This action helps in the management of asthma and allergic rhinitis. Xyflo 4 mg is specifically indicated for children aged 2 to 5 years for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma, as well as for the relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. It is also used for the acute prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB) in children aged 6 years and older. The recommended dosage for pediatric patients aged 2 to 5 years is one 4 mg chewable tablet taken once daily in the evening, with or without food. The medication should not be used as a substitute for fast-acting inhalers during acute asthma attacks. Common side effects may include headache, gastrointestinal discomfort, and upper respiratory tract infections. Patients are advised to take Xyflo 4 mg as prescribed and to store it in a cool, dry place, protected from light and moisture.
