Description
Carlina-M® is a prescription medication manufactured by Radiant Pharmaceuticals Ltd., combining two active ingredients—Linagliptin 2.5 mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 1000 mg—to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. Linagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases the levels of active incretin hormones, enhancing insulin secretion and reducing glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner. Metformin, a biguanide, works by decreasing hepatic glucose production, reducing intestinal glucose absorption, and improving insulin sensitivity. Together, these components help control blood sugar levels without causing hypoglycemia when used alone. Carlina-M® is typically taken twice daily with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. The dosage should be individualized based on effectiveness and tolerability, with a maximum recommended dose of 2.5 mg Linagliptin and 1000 mg Metformin twice daily. It is contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, or hypersensitivity to either component. Common side effects may include nasopharyngitis and diarrhea.
