Indications:
Rivotril is indicated for the treatment of seizure disorders (such as epilepsy), panic disorder, and anxiety disorders.
Pharmacology:
Rivotril contains Clonazepam, a benzodiazepine that enhances the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain, producing a calming effect on the nervous system.
Dosage & Administration:
Initial dose typically starts at 0.5 mg two to three times daily, adjusted based on clinical response.
Tablets should be taken with water, preferably at the same times each day.
Dosage must be individualized and gradually tapered to avoid withdrawal symptoms.
Interaction:
May interact with other CNS depressants, alcohol, anticonvulsants, and opioids. Caution advised to avoid enhanced sedation or respiratory depression.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Clonazepam or benzodiazepines, acute narrow-angle glaucoma, and severe respiratory insufficiency.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, impaired coordination, and memory problems. Long-term use may lead to dependence.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy unless benefits outweigh risks. Clonazepam is excreted in breast milk; caution advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use cautiously in elderly patients and those with history of substance abuse. Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent seizures or withdrawal.
