Indications:
Efodio is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure), chronic stable angina, and vasospastic angina (Prinzmetal's angina). It may be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensive or antianginal agents.
Pharmacology:
Efodio contains Amlodipine, a long-acting calcium channel blocker (dihydropyridine class). It inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. It also improves oxygen delivery to the myocardium, thereby reducing angina symptoms.
Dosage & Administration:
Usual adult dose: 5–10 mg once daily.
Elderly or patients with hepatic impairment: Start with 5 mg once daily.
Dose may be adjusted based on therapeutic response.
May be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
Concomitant use with CYP3A4 inhibitors (like ketoconazole) may increase Amlodipine levels. Caution when used with other antihypertensives or beta-blockers.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Amlodipine or any component of the formulation. Severe hypotension, cardiogenic shock, or unstable angina not recommended.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, dizziness, edema, flushing, and fatigue. Rarely, palpitations, abdominal pain, and nausea may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Use with caution during lactation as it's not known if the drug is excreted in human milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with severe aortic stenosis, liver impairment, or heart failure. Monitor blood pressure regularly during therapy.
Therapeutic Class:
Calcium Channel Blockers (Dihydropyridine group).
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool and dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
